2002 Mid-Year Business Meeting Minutes

President Greg Chapman called the meeting to order about 5:15 p.m.
The following business items were discussed:

·        Nominating committee: Two board-of-directors positions and the President-Elect position need to be filled before the HPS Annual Meeting since their term is up. The ballot should go out soon so the positions are filled in time to make the change at the HPS Annual Meeting.  Joe Takahashi volunteered to be the chair and Eric Abelquist offered to help.  Joe will find one other person to be on the committee.  The ballot will contain a couple survey questions as well, such as:

·
Have you been on the D&D Section website?
·
What do you want out of the D&D Section?

·        By-laws change: It was recommended that the following changes be made to the bylaws:

  • Currently, the Past-President is a member of the board.  State that the Past-President will choose the chair of the nominating committee.
  • Reduce the Board of Directors from 6 members to three.  It is difficult to get that many people to serve and it is not clear we have activities that require so large a board. A ballot will be prepared to put this before the membership.

·        Ad hoc Rules Committee:  Although the section has a charter and by-laws, we do not have a set of rules describing what the functions are for each of the section officers and board members.  An ad hoc committee was selected: Eric Abelquist, Debra McBaugh, and Robert Burns.

·        Business Meeting at Annual Meeting in Tampa:  We will contact the program chair or Sue Burk to set up a business meeting at the meeting.  We will try to find a time adjacent to a session that covers decommissioning topics.

The following items were left open:

·
Can balloting be accomplished by email?
·
What are we allowed to use our money for?  Can we provide coffee and refreshments at business meetings or section sessions?
·
Is there an easy way to update email addresses for members on the D&D Website?

The meeting was adjourned at 6:05 p.m.

2001 Annual Business Meeting Minutes

The 4th annual meeting of the Decommissioning Section commenced at 11:50 AM on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at the annual Health Physics Society meeting in Cleveland, OH.  Executive Board member Tom O’Dou presided over the meeting.  There were approximately 12 Section members in attendance.

Highlights from the Decommissioning Section 2000-2001 Annual Report were reviewed.  It was noted that the Section is still growing (currently at 388 members), and that approximately $3700 is in the Section coffers.

Results of the recent Decommissioning Section election of Section officers and the Executive Board were announced.  The current slate of officers and board members are as follows:

Past President:                 Jay Adler

President:                        Greg Chapman

President-Elect:               Debra McBaugh

Secretary Treasurer:        April Chance ‘03

Executive Board:             Mark Ledoux ‘02

                                       Jim Tarpinian ‘02

                                       Rick Roberts ‘03

                                       Art Paytner ‘03

                                       Wayne Vogel ‘04

                                       Jim Yusko ‘04

This year’s Nominating Committee included Scott Kirk (Chair), Eric Goldin and Joseph Nardi.

Bill Kennedy (former HPS Board Liaison to the Section) mentioned that our current Board Liaison, Craig Little, was not able to attend the Section meeting. Kennedy suggested that President Chapman draft a letter to Keith Dinger, Scientific & Public Issues Committee to offer the Decommissioning Section’s expertise to the HPS on decommissioning-related issues.  Kennedy also mentioned that the Decommissioning Section would be asked to provide input on the HPS 2010 Strategic Plan.

Eric Abelquist (Past President of Section) mentioned that the HPS Midyear meeting in Orlando 2002 has decommissioning as its theme, and that the Decommissioning Section should sponsor a technical session at this meeting.  Greg Komp of the Symposia Committee should be contacted to express the Section’s interest in sponsoring a session.

Additional suggestions for future Section activities were proposed including: 1) adding a Guest Book to the web site, 2) getting more members involved with maintaining the web site, 3) developing decommissioning-related position papers.

The meeting was closed at approximately 12:30 PM.
