Bridging Radiation Policy and Science Revisited

The American Academy of Health Physics (AAHP) has announced the final agenda for the Special AAHP Session on Wednesday, 28 June, in conjunction with the American Radiation Conference and Exposition in Denver.

The Session, cochaired by Sigurður Magnússon and Kenneth Mossman, will revisit the Bridging Radiation Policy and Science (BRPS) Conference which was held in early December 1999 at the Airlie House Conference Center in Warrenton, Virginia. The BRPS Conference was “by invitation only” and focused on an international perspective. The AAHP Session will open the floor to a wider audience.

The Session will open at 2:30 p.m. with a Conference Overview by Mossman. Other agenda topics and speakers are as follows:

· Philosophical Overview—Gail de Planque, International Nuclear Societies Council

· Science Issues—Jack Valentin, International Commission on Radiation Protection, Sweden

· Factors Influencing Public Policy—Rick Jones, U.S. Department of Energy

· International Organizations and Policymaking—Abel Gonzalez, International Atomic Energy Agency, Austria

· National/Regional Overviews—Kenneth Kase, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center

· From Science to Policy to Regulation—Genevieve Roessler, University of Florida (Emeritus)

· Problems and Options—Roger Clarke, National Radiation Protection Board, United Kingdom

· Conclusions and Recommendations—Sigurður Magnússon, Icelandic Radiation Protection Institute, Iceland
